Sony Mobile announces pricing and availability of flagship Xperia XZ Premium

Sony Mobile today announced the pricing and availability of its flagship new Xperia XZ Premium smartphone which includes the world’s first 4K HDR display on a mobile device.

The XZ Premium has a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution 2160 x 3840 and high dynamic range using Sony’s Bravia TV technology so you can enjoy high quality immersive content anywhere.

It will be available online and in-store today from Vodafone, Optus, Virgin Mobile and Sony and from JB Hi-Fi from July 4 and will be priced at $1,099 with pre-orders commencing today. Customers have the choice of two colours – luminous chrome and deep sea black.

Also on board the XZ Premium is the new Motion Eye camera system which includes the world’s first 960 frames per second super slow motion video playback – four times slower than other smartphones.

The camera also has Predictive Capture which means it will start buffering images when it detects the direction of motion even before you’ve hit the shutter button.

It has a 19-megapixel resolution and can capture more light and detail thanks to its 19 per cent larger pixels.

Design-wise, Sony Mobile has delivered once again with a glass loop surface that shows off a mirror effect on the back panel.

The fingerprint sensor is once again located on the power button on the side of the device.

Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform with the possibility of 4G speeds of up to 1Gbps.

As usual, the new Sony Mobile XZ premium is water resistant, dust proof with reinforced Corning Gorilla Glass five protecting the display.

Music fans will also enjoy a high-resolution audio playback.

“Xperia XZ Premium is our most technologically capable smartphone ever and we’re thrilled that the product will be ranged across all Australian carriers, major retailer JB Hi-Fi, as well as direct through Sony,” said John Featherstone, Managing Director of Sony Mobile Oceania.

“Perfectly suited to the Australian way of life and our love of photography, the new Motion Eye camera technology has once again proven that Sony Mobile is at the forefront of smartphone technology.

“From 960fps Super slow motion playback, Predictive capture, to 4K HDR display; we are proud to introduce many world first hero features.
