Modern technology gives us many things.

Express Pay for iPhone and Apple Watch is now available for NSW commuters

Express mode for Apple Pay is now available and will make things easier for commuters in NSW using the rail, bus, ferry and light rail networks with easier contactless payments on iPhone and Apple Watch.

iPhone and Apple Watch users who enable Express Mode can use their preferred debit or credit card with just a simple tap on the Opal terminals without even needing to wake or unlock their device.

But the Opal Cards themselves are not supported at this time.

Users also don’t have to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID or their passcode or even open the Wallet app to make the contactless payment.

And even if an iPhone is in Power Reserve, they still have up to five hours to pay for their ride.

Here’s how to set up Express Mode on your iPhone or Apple Watch:

– Make sure Express Mode is enabled. (Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Express Travel Card > Select preferred card > Authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID.)

– Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the contactless reader.

– When the transaction has successfully completed, a tick and “Done” will appear on your device. If you’re using Express Mode with public transport, the terminal gate will open and may beep.

– There is no need to wake or unlock your device, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, or open the Wallet app.

Express Mode is supported on iPhone and Apple Watch with Apple Pay, compatible with iOS 16.4 and watchOS 9.4 or later. Power Reserve requires iPhone X or later.

And the same level of security and privacy that we already know as part of Apple Pay is also being used for Express Mode.

Each transaction generates a one-time unique code. And Apple will not track your journey.
