Modern technology gives us many things.

NBN’s upgraded Fixed Wireless network now delivering faster speeds in remote areas

More than 16,000 homes and businesses are enjoying even faster speeds thanks to the delivery of the first round of upgrades to the NBN Fixed Wireless network.

The first areas to benefit from the completed fixed wireless upgrades are the South Coast of NSW and the Sunshine Coast in QLD.

And more areas will follow in the coming months and into next year.

In fact, by the end of 2024 there will be more than 750,000 homes and businesses around the country which will see remarkable improvements in speed and performance thanks to the NBN Fixed Wireless network.

More than 3,200 homes and businesses on the South Coast of NSW and Queensland’s Sunshine Coast were only able to access NBN services by the NBN Sky Muster satellite service can now access NBN Fixed Wireless networks for the first time.

NBN says it has also plans to offer higher speed plans as well as boosting its popular existing plan.

The current NBN Fixed Wireless Plus plan has increased from 75Mbps down and 10Mbps up to 100Mbps/20Mbps.

NBN is also proposing further enhancements to the Fixed Wireless network to allow for even higher speed tiers.

The NBN Fixed Wireless Home Fast plan will increase from 100-130Mbps to 200-250Mbps.

And the Fixed Wireless Super Fast plan would increase from 200 to 325-400Mbps.

This plan would be available to 80 per cent of the NBN fixed wireless coverage area by mid 2024.

These upgrades are the result of a $750m investment program – $480m from the Australian government and $270m from the NBN itself.

“We know that homes and businesses across regional Australia are using more devices and demanding more data and speed than ever before, that is why we continue to invest and upgrade the NBN network,” says Jason Ashton, NBN’s Chief Technology Officer, Wireless Networks.

“We are using the cutting-edge technology to boost the performance and range of the NBN Fixed Wireless network.

“This helps enable a smoother experience, even at the busiest times and supports multiple device usage, with less buffering.

“The upgrades aim to make it easier for people to work remotely, access digital services and entertainment and connect with loved ones and do the online activities and services that are most important to them.

“Following extensive testing of upgraded areas of the network, we believe we can deliver even better NBN services to consumers on the Fixed Wireless network.”
