Modern technology gives us many things.

Tesla’s new Model Y all-electric SUV is now on sale in Australia

Tesla is now taking orders in Australia for its latest electric vehicle – the Model Y – a mid-size SUV with prices starting from $68,900 with first deliveries in Australia expected between August and November.

The Tesla model Y has been available in the USA and other markets for some time and it has finally arrived in Australia.

Customers interested in the Model Y can now spec up a vehicle at Tesla’s online Model Y Design Studio with the choice of two models – Rear Wheel Drive and Performance.

The model Y doesn’t even need a key. Instead it connects to your smartphone for fast entry and exit.

Inside is a 15-inch touchscreen interface which allows drivers to control the entire vehicle and connects with the Tesla smartphone app so users can unlock the car, pre-condition the car remotely, locate the vehicle and set a speed limit mode.

The all-electric Model Y is a five-seater and has a panoramic glass roof with high seating so drivers and passengers can experience spaciousness and a clear view from every seat.

Storage wise, between the front trunk and split folding second row seats, there’s a total of 2158 litres of space.

The Tesla Model Y is one of the safest midsize SUV’s on the market and has a low centre of gravity, so rollovers are less likely along with a rigid body structure and protection through the large crumple zones.

Between its aerodynamic design an industry-leading battery technology, the Tesla Model Y is also energy efficient which means you can drive further using less energy.

Model Y can be charged through the current Supercharger network which can be found at 49 locations across Australia with more than 230 Superchargers available including the new V3 Superchargers which can charge at a rate of up to 160km range per hour so you can charge your vehicle faster than ever before.

And unlike most other vehicles, the Model Y will actually get better over the time with regular over-the-air software updates that consistently unlock new features.

The model Y Rear Wheel Drive model starts at $68,900 (including GST, excluding on road costs) while the Performance model starts at $98,689.

The car is available in pearl white multicoat, solid black, midnight silver metallic, deep blue metallic and red multicoat.

The Rear Wheel Drive and Performance models have a range of 455km 514km respectively with a fully charged battery.

Stay tuned to Tech Guide as we take a test drive in the coming weeks.
