Modern technology gives us many things.

Fitbit unveils the Alta HR – the world’s thinnest wristband with heart-rate monitoring

Fitbit has unveiled its latest device – the Alta HR – the world’s thinnest fitness wristband with continuous heart rate monitoring and advanced sleep tracking capabilities.

Fitbit’s Alta HR was able to include the company’s PurePulse technology by reducing the chip size and the number of components.

As a result, the Alta HR is 25 per cent thinner than the Fitbit Charge 2.

Alta HR can provide continuous heart rate tracking so it can measure calorie burn more accurately including during non-step-based activities like yoga.

Users are also now able to set real-time heart zones to figure out the right intensity of your workout as well as see their resting heart rate – a key indicator of cardiovascular health.

On the sleep side the Alta HR has also lifted its game thanks to PurePulse which combines accelerometer data with heart rate monitoring to now more accurately measure your various sleep stages including light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep and the periods of the night when you’re awake.

The accurate analysis, which was developed by Fitbit’s panel of sleep experts, may indicate sleep irregularities that need to be discussed with a doctor.

Of course, Fitbit Alta HR will still deliver what it’s best at – tracking steps and exercise, movement reminders as well as relaying calls, texts and notifications from your smartphone.
