If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your home AV set-up – the good news is Samsung has a few options to help you find right solution to suit your needs and the viewing conditions.

The improvements in picture and sound quality even in the last few years has been remarkable.

Samsung, the leading TV global manufacturer for the past 17 years,[1] has a wide range of options and screen sizes to make the home entertainment experience better than ever before.

And not all viewing conditions are the same – there are brighter rooms, darker rooms and rooms for fit an even larger TV.

Samsung’s range of TV’s include OLED, its flagship Neo QLED models, QLED, Crystal UHD and not to mention the Premiere Projector for the ultimate cinema experience. There’s also The Freestyle Portable Projector for high-res viewing on the move[2].

And, on the audio side, Samsung’s latest soundbars can extend the experience and totally immerse you even further in the movie or TV show you’re watching.

One trend in Australia is our move towards larger TVs. As a matter of fact, 85-inch is the fastest growing TV size in Australia.[3] And once you go big, there is very little buyer’s remorse.

Samsung’s stats[4] show 95 per cent of TV customers surveyed with screens 75-inch and above are either happy with their purchase or wish they’d gone even bigger. Nearly half (43 per cent) of all customers who purchased a TV in 2022 were sorry they didn’t go even bigger.[5]

Samsung’s OLED TV

SAMSUNG OLED

Samsung has extended its line-up of OLED TVs with 55, 65 and 77-inch models to offer more choices to customers who watch TVs in darker rooms, and rooms where they can completely control the lighting conditions.

Samsung’s OLED have more than 8 million self-illuminating pixels which means there’s no need for a backlight. This means the pixel is either on or off, which results in stunning black levels, clean whites, and vibrant Pantone-certified colours. Pantone certification means the TV can accurately display 2,030 Pantone colours and 110 shades of skin tones.

But Samsung’s OLED TV also incorporates Quantum Dot technology which adds brightness and even more accuracy[6].

The other Quantum Dot benefit is the contrast and HDR (high dynamic range). OLED+ gets even more out of the picture – brighter brights and darker darks.

At its heart is the Neural Quantum Processor 4K which can optimise the picture – brightness, contrast, upscaling and enhancing objects – it all happens in real time.

Samsung’s OLED TVs also have eight speakers built around the edges of the TV to provide OTS (object tracking sound) which allows viewers to track an object as it moves across the screen.

Samsung’s NEO QLED TV

SAMSUNG NEO QLED

Samsung’s jewel in the crown is the Neo QLED TV range, available in sizes all the way up to 85-inch.

The QN900C has a stunning Infinity display with the incredible picture going edge to edge.

One of the strengths of Samsung’s Neo QLED is colour and brightness,  meaning the TVs can easily handle bright, open-plan rooms with very little reflection. The backlight is made of Samsung’s Mini LED technology. The LEDs are 1/40th the size of a regular LED and the increased and precise lighting control creates even more detail and less blooming.

A bright object can be right next to inky black levels thanks to the remarkable Mini LED technology[7].

Also under the hood is the Neural Quantum Processor which optimises the experience in real time.

Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs are available in 4K and 8K and have AI onboard to upscale your content to the respective resolution.

The means YouTube, movies, games and your TV shows will look better than ever.

On the audio side, the Neo QLED TVs also have OTS (object tracking sound) and Dolby Atmos so you’ll be hearing sound coming from every direction including above you.

The TV has a One Connect box that can attach on the back of the stand, position on an entertainment unit, or inside the entertainment unit with just one cable running to the TV.

All your sources can then be plugged into the One Connect box.

All Samsung TV are powered by the Tizen operating system with easy access to free-to-air channels alongside popular streaming apps. Another excellent feature is Samsung TV – hundreds of free channels that are broadcast via your broadband connection. These include movie, sports and entertainment channels.

SmartThings[8] is also a feature of Samsung TVs so you can connect, monitor and control the smart devices and appliances in your home from one easy-to-navigate dashboard.

Samsung’s Premiere short throw projector

SAMSUNG PREMIERE

If you’re after a true cinematic experience and want a bigger picture, the Samsung Premiere Projector could be the answer.

Premiere is a short-throw 4K projector which can produce an image up to 130-inches on your wall, or on to a fixed projection screen.

And being a projector, it comes to life in dark conditions.

The Premiere can rest on a table or entertainment unit and can be positioned just 11.3cm from the wall.

The latest model has Triple Laser technology to produce impressive brightness and precise colour accuracy.

And there are inputs to connect all your sources and built-in speakers with 40W of 4.2ch audio.

It also has the same Tizen OS and access to free to air channels, Samsung TV and streaming apps as well as the SmartThings dashboard.

Samsung’s Freestyle projector

SAMSUNG FREESTYLE

This is the appropriately named product because there is no limit to where you can take it and your viewing.

This smart little projector can produce up to 100-inches of full, high definition image and, unlike traditional and more complicated projectors, the Freestyle is a snap to set up.

You can aim it at the wall, at the ceiling or at a sheet hanging off the clothesline. The Freestyle can even run off a portable battery base[9] so you can take the viewing party anywhere.

It has auto-focus but also straightens out skewed images so you’re ready to enjoy your movie, TV episode or sporting event in a matter of seconds[10].

Also onboard the Samsung Freestyle is a built-in 360-degree speaker[11].

And you’ll find everything you’ll find on a regular Samsung TV thanks to the Tizen OS which offers Samsung TV free internet channels and all your favourite streaming apps.

And when you’re done, you can pack it away in a hardshell carry until the next movie night.

Samsung’s Q Series Soundbar

SAMSUNG SOUNDBARS

Good sound is half of the experience when it comes to immersing yourself in a movie, or wanting to feel like you’re actually at the game.

Samsung’s range of soundbars can help elevate your viewing and enjoyment.

The Q-Series Soundbars have set a new standard in audio quality with 11.1.4ch surround sound through front, side, rear and upfiring speakers that can also offer true Dolby Atmos and DTS:X[12].

A unique Samsung feature with the soundbar connected to a Samsung QLED TV is Q Symphony, which allows viewers to have sound coming from the TV and the soundbar at the same time so you are truly surrounded by sound that takes the quality to another level.

And if you’re after style without compromising on big sound, then the S-Series Soundbars are the answer.

With a sleek design, the S-Series still produce 3.1.2ch sound and Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for a room-filling sound.

When we talk about smart home ecosystems, there aren’t many bigger than Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, which includes mobile devices, AV products, monitors and home appliances and more.

The idea of a connected home has been around for years, and the SmartThings app continues to pique the interest of consumers, with 35 per cent of Australians surveyed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd seeing the appeal of smart homes[1][2].

Whilst the SmartThings app enables Australians to connect their compatible smart devices within the home, it also connects certain mobile devices, with compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones, watches, tablets, Buds and SmartTag2 also operating within the ecosystem.

And the benefits aren’t just about convenience – it can also help you monitor your energy consumption as well.

Some Samsung appliances have built-in technology which can learn about your usage patterns and load sizes, which can help users monitor energy output to provide personalised automation to suit your lifestyle, routines and preferences.

Naturally, Samsung products work together seamlessly but the SmartThings app can also work with other compatible connected devices a part of your smart home’s ecosystem, such as third party products[3] from other brands which are compatible with Matter[4].

Matter is a new connectivity standard that makes compatible products talk the same language and work together on the same network. Think of Matter as the smart home version of Bluetooth.

Bluetooth makes it possible for virtually all headphones to connect wirelessly to any smartphone regardless of the brand.

Matter will do the same thing, connecting a variety of compatible smart home products to your home network and centralising them within the SmartThings mobile app.

On the mobile side, the most obvious SmartThings connection is between a Galaxy smartphone, Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Tab.

Once the case is opened, the Buds are immediately recognised by your compatible Galaxy smartphone to enter pairing mode for connection.

And the controls are also brought to your fingertips so you can adjust the Buds’ settings and easily control your media via the Galaxy Wearable app.

And with Galaxy Buds Auto Switching users can seamlessly switch between their compatible Galaxy smartphone to the Galaxy Tab. So this means you can start a movie on the phone and continue watching it on the tablet without skipping a beat.

When the Galaxy Watch is in the mix and paired to a Galaxy smartphone, you can receive notifications and incoming calls alongside other features including the ability to take a photo from your wrist using the Camera Controller on the Galaxy Watch.

If you get a call on your Galaxy smartphone it’s also possible to answer the call on the Galaxy Tab if they are both signed into the same Samsung account.

Your Samsung TV can also be the hub of your smart home.

It can be your home’s mission control so you can monitor all your compatible smart connected devices including select appliances, lights, cameras and smart switches. And you can even control your Samsung smart TV from your compatible Samsung Galaxy phone[5]– simply open the SmartThings app, choose your compatible device and use your phone as the remote control.

Looking at something on your phone but want to see it on the bigger screen of your TV? You can also mirror your compatible phone and your TV screen will show the same content.

You can create scenes and routines from the Smart TV SmartThings dashboard. Users can easily create a scene that creates the right viewing atmosphere for a movie.

A movie night scene can be created to switch sources to the disc player or favourite streaming service while the same time having the connected smart lights dim down and fade out.

SmartThings app notifications can also be set to be received on the Samsung Smart Monitor M7 and M8 which can be your computer monitor one minute and turn into an entertainment hub the next with the same Tizen operating system as found on Samsung smart TVs.

The ecosystem created from all this connectivity is compelling.  There are so many customisation options that you can set up if you have compatible devices. For example, if someone is at the door, an alert can appear on the TV that the video doorbell is ringing. You can also be informed once your laundry cycle in your Samsung washing machine is complete, or if you left the door of the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator open.

If you have a Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator you can also stream the TV signal to the screen so you’re not missing a moment of the movie or sporting event if you’re in the kitchen making a snack.

The Samsung Family Hub includes a 21-inch display you can access apps on and even order your shopping right there on the screen and have it delivered to your door.

A favourite feature of the Family Hub is the ability to look inside the fridge via the Built-In cameras which can be accessed via the SmartThings app so you can see if you need milk, bread or butter and anything else while you’re at the shops.

This way you’re not buying another carton of milk or more bread if you already have them. Saves you money and save you wasting food.

Samsung’s wide range of smart appliances like the Bespoke AI™ Washers and Dryers and the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ are a great way to bring the SmartThings ecosystem in your home.

With SmartThings you will understand how easily it can be used and optimised to make your life easier.

When you have the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem in full swing, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

2 – To use SmartThings, download the app from the Galaxy Store, Play Store, or App Store. The app requires Android OS 9

with a minimum of 3GB RAM space or iOS 14. To access SmartThings, users must have a Samsung Account and smart devices will require internet connection in order to connect to the SmartThings network. All devices must be connected to Wi-Fi or another wireless network and registered with a single Samsung Account

3 – Compatible devices must be purchased separately in order to access SmartThings Services.  Please visit www.samsung.com/au/apps/smartthings/ for a list of current compatible devices.

4 – A Matter-compatible hub is required for connecting Matter devices to Smart Things.

5- Not all smart devices and appliances are compatible with SmartThings.

Australian Formula 1 superstar Oscar Piastri has joined forces with Quad Lock to launch a road safety campaign to stop drivers using their smartphones while they are driving.

Piastri was named the 2023 Formula 1 Rookie of the Year and has partnered with Quad Lock to share an important message: “Keep your hand off it!”

This message is directed at drivers who think they can still text and scroll while they are driving which puts themselves and other road users in danger.

More than 360,000 mobile infringements were issues in Australia in 2022 – an increase of 63 per cent from the previous year.

In NSW alone, there were 191 casualties between 2012 and 2019 involving a driver using a handheld mobile phone.

“As a professional driver, safety has always been paramount to me, both on and off the track,” Piastri says.

“Unfortunately, a surge in road incidents often accompanies the holiday season, and I think it’s a really important message to address unsafe phone use which is a preventable factor in many accidents.”

Australia is leading the way to prioritise safety when it comes to using our smartphones in our cars.

And the message is already getting through with Quad Lock reporting a significant growth in sales of their products which offers a secure mounting system.

The Australian designed fixed mounting system has experienced a 50 per cent year on year increase for its Drive category.

“Quad Lock has always been at the forefront of promoting safe and secure mounting of smart phone devices,” says Rob Ward, co-Founder of Quad Lock and staunch advocate for safety and innovation.

“We are proud to launch the ‘Keep Your Hands Off It’ narrative alongside Oscar, as it aligns with our commitment to enhancing driver safety through innovative solutions.

“Quad Lock sales data and the notable growth of the ‘Drive’ category tells a promising story that Aussies are in fact listening.

“This is encouraging, and we hope that through focused messages such as this, we can continue to improve driver safety as a nation.”

The law states a driver must use a commercially designed and manufactured fixed mounting and placed inside the vehicle so it will not distract the driver.

The global financial landscape is undergoing a significant transformation with the advent of digital currencies, and one currency that’s been making waves in recent years is the digital yuan.

China’s digital yuan, also known as the Digital Currency Electronic Payment (DCEP), is at the forefront of this digital revolution. In this article, we will explore the key aspects of the digital yuan and how it’s reshaping the way we think about money, data, and financial transactions.

Understanding the Digital Yuan

The Evolution of Money: From Physical to Digital

Money, once a tangible asset represented by coins and banknotes, has been steadily transitioning into digital form. This evolution is driven by advancements in technology and changing consumer preferences. The digital yuan is the latest milestone in this journey, representing a government-backed digital currency.

Key Features of the Digital Yuan

Centralized Control and Regulatory Framework

One of the defining features of the digital yuan is its centralization and tight regulatory control by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC). Unlike decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, the digital yuan is issued and governed by a centralized authority, providing stability and regulatory oversight.

Dual Offline Transactions

The digital yuan is designed to support dual offline transactions, allowing users to make payments without an internet connection. This feature enhances accessibility, especially in remote areas with limited connectivity.

Integration with the Traditional Financial System

The digital yuan seamlessly integrates with China’s existing financial infrastructure, making it easy for individuals and businesses to transition from physical cash to digital currency. It coexists with the physical yuan, ensuring a smooth adoption process.

The Geopolitical Implications

The Digital Yuan and the Global Financial Landscape

The introduction of the digital yuan has significant implications for the global financial landscape. It challenges the dominance of the U.S. dollar as the world’s primary reserve currency and offers an alternative for international trade and finance.

China’s Strategic Goals with the Digital Yuan

China aims to expand its economic influence by promoting the digital yuan as a global currency. This strategic move aligns with China’s broader goal of reducing reliance on the U.S. dollar in international transactions and increasing its geopolitical clout.

Challenges and Concerns from Other Nations

The rise of the digital yuan has raised concerns among other nations, particularly regarding data privacy, surveillance, and China’s potential influence over global financial systems. Policymakers and regulators worldwide are closely monitoring these developments.

Economic Opportunities and Challenges

Impacts on International Trade and Finance

The digital yuan offers the potential to streamline international trade by reducing the reliance on the U.S. dollar for cross-border transactions. This can lead to cost savings and increased efficiency in global commerce.

The Potential for Cross-Border Transactions

Cross-border transactions are often associated with high fees, delays, and complexity. The digital yuan has the potential to simplify and expedite these transactions, benefiting businesses engaged in international trade.

Risks Associated with the Digital Yuan

While the digital yuan presents numerous opportunities, it also poses risks, including concerns about data privacy and security. The centralized nature of the currency raises questions about the extent of surveillance and data collection by the Chinese government.

The Role of Big Data in the Digital Yuan Ecosystem

How Data Collection and Analysis Shape the Digital Yuan

The digital yuan ecosystem relies on data collection and analysis to enhance security and monitor transactions. This data-driven approach enables the government to track currency flows and detect illicit activities.

Implications for Consumer Privacy and Surveillance Concerns

The extensive data collection associated with the digital yuan raises concerns about consumer privacy and surveillance. Users may worry about the government’s access to their financial data and the potential for misuse.

Opportunities for Businesses and Financial Institutions

The availability of data within the digital yuan ecosystem offers opportunities for businesses and financial institutions to better understand consumer behavior and tailor their services. This data can inform market strategies and product development.

Investment and Innovation in the Digital Yuan Space

Fintech Startups and Their Role in the Digital Yuan Ecosystem

Fintech startups are playing a pivotal role in developing applications and services that leverage the digital yuan. These startups are driving innovation and expanding the use cases for digital currency.

Government Initiatives to Promote Innovation

The Role of Miners in the Bitcoin Ecosystem

In the complex world of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin miners play a fundamental role that extends far beyond mere coin creation. These miners are crucial to the maintenance and development of the Bitcoin blockchain, the decentralized ledger that underpins the currency. Their role can be likened to that of auditors, validating the legitimacy of Bitcoin transactions. This validation process is essential to prevent the issue of double-spending, where the same Bitcoin could potentially be spent more than once.

Miners contribute to the network by solving complex cryptographic puzzles using high-powered computers. This process, known as proof of work, requires significant computational power and energy. When a miner successfully solves a puzzle, they are allowed to add a block of transactions to the blockchain. This addition is accompanied by a reward in the form of newly minted Bitcoins, as well as transaction fees paid by users. This incentivization is critical in attracting miners to the network, ensuring its continual operation and security.

The collective power of miners also contributes to the decentralization of the Bitcoin network. By distributing the task of validating and recording transactions across a vast network of miners, the system avoids reliance on a central authority. This decentralization is a key feature that enhances the security and integrity of Bitcoin. It makes the network more resilient to attacks and manipulation, as compromising it would require an impractical amount of computational power and coordination.

Furthermore, the activity of miners impacts the Bitcoin network’s hash rate—a measure of the total computational power used in mining and processing transactions. A high hash rate indicates a healthy and secure network, as it signifies robust participation and computational power dedicated to maintaining the blockchain.

In summary, Bitcoin miners are more than just creators of new Bitcoins. They are the guardians of the blockchain’s integrity, enablers of transaction validation, and pillars supporting the decentralization and security of the entire Bitcoin network. Their role is integral to the functioning and trustworthiness of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

The Hypothetical Scenario: A World Without Bitcoin Miners

Envisioning a world without Bitcoin miners presents a scenario that strikes at the very heart of the cryptocurrency’s infrastructure. The absence of miners would fundamentally disrupt the operation and security of the Bitcoin network. Without miners, the critical process of validating and adding new transactions to the blockchain would come to a halt. This cessation would directly impact the ability of the network to process transactions, leading to a standstill in Bitcoin exchanges and transfers.

In the Bitcoin ecosystem, miners are not just participants but are essential cogs that keep the blockchain machine running smoothly. Their role in solving complex cryptographic puzzles to validate transactions and add them to the blockchain is what allows Bitcoin to function as a decentralized digital currency. Without this decentralized validation, the system would lose its integrity and reliability, as there would be no means to confirm the authenticity and finality of transactions.

Moreover, the mining process is intrinsically tied to the release of new Bitcoins through block rewards, a system designed to control the supply of the currency. The cessation of mining activities would also mean the end of new Bitcoin generation, leading to a capped and potentially depleted Bitcoin supply. This limitation could drive up the value of existing Bitcoins in the short term, but the long-term implications might be detrimental, as the currency could lose its appeal without the influx of new coins.

The security of the Bitcoin network is another critical aspect that would be severely compromised in the absence of miners. The network’s security is largely dependent on the proof of work mechanism, which requires miners to expend computational power to validate transactions. Without miners, the network would become vulnerable to attacks, including the dreaded 51% attack, where an entity could gain control over the majority of the network’s mining power, allowing them to manipulate the blockchain.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the cessation of Bitcoin mining could profoundly affect not only the cryptocurrency’s value and security but also have significant implications for the global financial landscape. This scenario underscores the pivotal role of miners in the blockchain network’s functionality and future.

That’s not a knife….. now that’s a knife!! This week on The Best Movies You’ve Never Seen podcast we’re watching Crocodile Dundee starring Paul Hogan – the movie became a worldwide hit when it was released in 1986.

Crocodile Dundee tells the story of Mick “Crocodile” Dundee who is the subject of a story by an American reporter about how he survived a croc attack before heading to New York for a real “fish out of water” experience.

Stephen watched Crocodile Dundee in the theatre – just like everyone else in Australia – and got to experience Australia being the flavour of the month in the US on a football end of season trip.

Trevor can’t remember the movie – he watched it years so this latest watch was as good as watching it for the first time.

We go through the memorable scenes and share some interesting facts, behind the scenes tidbits, trivia, fact v fiction and other things you don’t know about the film.

You can listen to the show on the player below.

Streaming TV shows and movies has become a fun form of entertainment for many of us. The ability to pull out your laptop or switch on your TV and get right into where you left off with your favourite show can be comforting after a long day of work.

But the convenience of streaming can come with its fair share of risks. That’s because streaming services use servers and network connections to help you stream media content. There’s a chance that your connection could be intercepted. And if you’re streaming your own video content to online audiences, you’re at an even greater risk of falling victim to cyberattacks.

To help, we’ll outline some of the top safety tips for streaming media content that can be useful for both viewers and streamers. Read on to learn more about how you can stream safely and securely.

Top Tips To Help You Stream Safely

Here are our top tips to help you stream movies and TV shows safely and securely.

Use a VPN to encrypt your network connection

VPNs (or ‘virtual private networks’) are cybersecurity tools that encrypt your network connection. This means third parties won’t be able to see your device location or other info about your connection.

There are now VPNs suitable for all types of web users, including media streamers. You can even find a VPN for your FireStick or Google Chromecast. Using a VPN can also help you unlock region-restricted content or watch shows that are only available on US Netflix servers in Australia!

Use antivirus software to protect your streaming devices

If your streaming device picks up malware or ransomware, having antivirus software can help protect your data. Antivirus software will scan your device for malicious files and notify you of potential breaches.

This ensures that you don’t have to stay on high alert and can simply sit back and catch up on your favourite TV shows.

Only stream with secure streaming services

Although streaming services can be expensive, the subscription costs for these services don’t compare to the costs of being hit with a cyber attack. And according to the ACSC, the cost of cybercrime in Australia is only growing every year.

You can avoid becoming another statistic by sticking to reputable and secure streaming services. Say a firm goodbye to pirating or torrenting films and TV shows. It’s simply not worth it!

Use a password manager to secure your accounts

The worst thing about giving your Netflix password away is not being able to watch your shows due to high activity on your account. Now imagine if this happens to you and you haven’t even handed your password to anybody at all.

This is what happens to streaming service users who don’t secure their accounts. Ideally, you want to change your account passwords every three months or even more frequently. And with 78% of Australians using the same password across multiple accounts, you’ll also want to swap out your pet names or favourite sports teams for a random string of numbers, letters, and symbols.

Yes, using complicated passwords may make them harder to remember. But that’s what password management tools are for. Password managers can help you easily keep track of all your account passwords safely and securely.

Enable multi-factor authentication on your accounts

Alongside changing your passwords regularly, streaming service users are also encouraged to enable MFA on their accounts. MFA or 2FA (‘multi-factor’ or ‘two-factor authentication’) ensures that nobody can access your account using just your password alone. They will also typically need to secure a code sent to your mobile device via SMS text or to your email address.

Top Secure Streaming Tips for Gamers

Here are our top practical tips to make sure that your streaming or vlogging career can go off without any hacker-initiated hitches.

Think before you click

Do you ever see weird links being copy-pasted into the chat on your streaming channel? The best way to respond to these is to remove them immediately and flag the messages with your streaming platform.

This is because links from insecure sources are more likely to be carriers of viruses or malware. Clicking on those links could infect your device with malicious software.

Use moderators to help monitor your chat

If you’re building up a larger audience on your streaming channels, moderation tools can help to keep your chat clean from stream to stream. You can use automated moderation tools or even enlist the support of trusted human moderators to monitor chat windows as you stream.

Manage your digital footprint

Even if you’re not sharing personal information on your streaming account, malicious parties can still learn a lot about you by looking at your digital footprint. So think carefully before you post about your birthday party on social media or share snaps of you holding your university degree with your full name clearly displayed. All of this information can be used by hackers to infiltrate your personal accounts.

Report abuse and scammers

If you experience any abuse or come across any potential scammers on your streaming channel, it’s essential that you report those figures straight away. Reporting these individuals to your streaming platform can help shut down any malevolent or fraudulent accounts. It’s also worth filing a formal report with the eSafety commissioner. That way, the incident will be formally logged as a cyber abuse case.

Final Thoughts

Whilst streaming movies and TV shows or even watching gaming streams online can be a lot of fun, it’s still important to practice caution. By using the tips outlined above, you can maintain your privacy and protect your devices when streaming.

In today’s competitive business environment, it can be difficult to find new ways to engage customers in effective and memorable ways. The implementation of technology into modern life has given great scope for new ways to reach bigger audiences. However, often businesses that fail to evolve with the evolution of technology get left behind.

Yet, if a business evolves too quickly into new technology, it can leave some consumers behind.

Today we will be focusing on a method of customer engagement that finds the sweet spot between innovation and practicality: Barcodes. Though once a simple product identifier, barcodes have expanded to become an extremely versatile tool. Conveniently, they are also extremely easy to create. You can make a QR right now by using accessible online tools such as a QR Code Generator.

What types of barcodes exist and how can you utilise them?

There are two main types of barcodes: linear barcodes and 2D barcodes.

Linear barcodes are commonly found on product packaging such as a supermarket item. These are called UPC barcodes and will consist of a series of parallel lines that encodes information. These barcodes provide stores with product information and inventory tracking. This is mostly useful for business operations efficiency rather than customer engagement.

2D barcodes such as QR codes use a matrix of squares to encode information in two dimensions. This allows for the storage and transfer of more data. This can be used to direct customers to product information websites, social media accounts or even provide access to exclusive content.

Ways to Enhance Customer Engagement with Barcodes

Barcodes can enhance customer engagement in a variety of ways. We have compiled some of the most innovative QR strategies below:

Barcodes can provide product information to customers such as reviews, usage instructions and detailed specifications for technological products. This can add credibility to your business and demonstrates transparency and accessibility. There is also the added bonus of lower staff workload, meaning employees are able to use their extra time to make customer experiences more enriching.

Another way to use barcodes is to offer promotions, discounts or loyalty programs. This is an efficient way to directly deliver value to your customers and keep them coming back for more.

You may also use barcodes to increase consumer engagement by showing product demonstrations. By using the product demonstrations to present different uses for the product, customers can easily imagine themselves owning the products. If this is a consumable good, you may also use product demonstrations to increase the amount of usage situations, and therefore use frequency, increasing frequency of sales.

Examples of successful barcode campaigns that have resulted in increased customer engagement and sales

Still not convinced? Here are a few examples of past brand campaigns using barcodes that have been extremely successful. They may also be useful inspiration for your own campaigns.

PepsiCo used QR codes on its beverage packaging to launch a digital scavenger hunt. This campaign led to over 10 million scans and a significant increase in brand engagement.

L’Oréal launched a QR code campaign by putting them on beauty product packaging to provide customers with personalised makeup tutorials. The result of this was increased product sales and customer satisfaction.

Starbucks used QR codes on its coffee cups to direct customers to their mobile app. This led to a large increase in app downloads and customer loyalty.

Best practices for using barcodes to create seamless and engaging customer experiences

So, you have made up your mind that you want to use a QR code in your business to maximise customer engagement. How do you actually implement them for the best chance of success?

Firstly, you want to make them clear and easy to scan. This can be achieved by placing them in prominent locations where they are easily visible to customers. Using large barcodes with clear contrast can make them easier to scan. Since their goal is to make the customer experience more seamless, putting them in frustrating places is counterintuitive to success.

Next, you want to create a compelling call to action. As a customer, why would you want to scan this random QR code? You must clearly communicate a reason or prompt for customers to scan the QR code indicating what they should expect after scanning. This should be done clearly and concisely, or you will lose the customers attention or overload their senses.

Make sure you don’t overdo it. You do not want to overwhelm the customer by placing unnecessary QR codes everywhere. Avoid sending customers to generic landing pages or irrelevant content. It is also important that the website you are sending them to is mobile friendly, for ease of use. Remember, customers can only take in so much information at a time, so be strategic with quantity and purpose.

Lastly, make sure to track results. No good customer engagement strategy is complete without result analysis. Make sure to monitor the activity on your site after implementing this strategy, and see which links are most popular. This will help you identify successful QR codes and make adjustments as needed.

Barcodes are a fantastic way to boost customer engagement and (hopefully) sales as a small business. QR codes in particular are cost effective and easy to use, saving both time and money that is vital when starting a business.
