Modern technology gives us many things.

Rode unveils NT1 5th Gen mic with Dual Connect for XLR and USB connectivity

Rode has unveiled a revolutionary new studio condenser microphone – the NT1 5th Generation – which features the patent pending Dual Connect technology so you can connect via XLR or USB.

The NT1 has sold more than six million units globally since its release more than 30 years ago, making it the world’s most popular studio microphone.

The microphone has gone through several iterations, but this latest 5th generation model is the most significant yet.

The NT1 5th Generation retains the iconic sound quality and world-class performance that made previous generations so popular but now with Dual Connect users have the choice of connecting via XLR cable or USB to make the microphone even more versatile.

It includes a world-first “unclippable” 32-bit float digital output along with advanced digital signal processing which brings tradition and innovation into one product to provide the ultimate studio microphone.

The original Nt1 was Rode’s very first microphone when it was released in 1991.

It became the first in a long line of products that pioneered audio capture technology.

At the time, it made recording accessible to more people than ever before and became the go-to microphone for everyone from studio professionals to DIY musicians.

“The NT1 5th Generation redefines the meaning of plug-and-play,” says Rode CEO Damien Wilson.

“Since the beginning of audio recording, engineers have relied on the gain knob to capture clean audio – it’s always been the most important process in the recording workflow.

“The NT1 5th Generation changes that completely.

“When recording in 32-bit float, users can literally plug their microphone into their computer and start recording instantly without any risk of their audio being ruined by clipping or distortion.”

The NT1 5th Generation features Rode’s ultra-low noise, high-gain Revolution Preamp and ultra-high-resolution analogue to digital conversion (up to 192kHz).

The powerful digital signal processing (DSP) means users can apply advanced APHEX audio processing to their recordings, including a compressor, noise gate, two-step high pass filter and Aural Exciter and Big Bottom effects.

The NT1 5th Generation ships with the studio grade shock mount and pop filter along with a high-quality XLR and USB cable.

The onboard HF6 capsule is precision manufactured at Rode’s state of the art facilities in Sydney, Australia to ensure consistent tonality and frequency response with internal shock mounting to minimise external vibrations.

The microphone is machined from rugged aluminium and is available in black and silver.

It includes Rode’s 10-year warranty.

The Rode NT1 5th Generation is available now and is priced at $439.
