BenQ launches new 4K UHD projector with HDR for less than $2,500

A 4K UHD HDR projector for under $2500. That’s exactly what BenQ is offering with the CineHome W1700 – a lightweight projector with a compact footprint that can be used in any space in your house.

A 4K projector that is priced at just $2,499 is remarkable value and we had to see this for ourselves.

Being huge movie fans, naturally we have a home theatre with 150-inch screen, a knockout JBL Synthesis speaker system and a Sony 4K projector that is priced well into five figures.

We’re well aware what it costs to create a decent 4K image through a projector so when we heard of the BenQ product we decided to put it through its paces and we will share those thoughts in our review soon.

The CineHome W1700 is a DLP projector and has 8.3-megapixel true 4K UHD resolution, CinematicColour accuracy as well as HDR (high dynamic range) that will offer lifelike image quality.

Under the hood the W1700 has 0.47-inch single DMD DLP technology to maintain the project is sleek and compact size for the modern home.

It also has a pure 4K optimised optical system to offer colour accuracy and image precision without those pesky artefacts that are common with LCD projectors.

What’s even more surprising is that this projector also supports HDR – a feature our five year old Sony 4K projector doesn’t have.

The W1700 has HDR10 support which means you can offer even greater brightness and more detail in darker areas thanks to its contrast range and auto image optimisation which adds to the image’s clarity.

BenQ, which is actually the global number one DLP projector brand, has also included support for the latest HDCP 2.2 copy protection so you can view all the latest 4K content in all their glory.

Part of the secret sauce of the W1700 is advanced CinematicColor accuracy which meets the industry’s high standards in terms of colour accuracy.

The projector delivers more than 96 per cent coverage of the Rec. 709 colour gamut to reproduce the vision the filmmaker intended.

The on-board technology also includes motion-adaptive edge pixel enhancement, sophisticated colour algorithms and flesh tone renditions to make the image look as real as possible.

On the audio side there are also built-in speakers to offer respectable base and top and mid-range levels.

Of course, users can connect the W1700 to a surround sound system for an even better experience.

But the fact the projector has built-in speakers says a lot about BenQ’s target market which is just about anyone.
