Take your gaming to the next level with the PlayStation DualSense Edge controller

If you want to get serious about your gaming on the Sony PlayStation 5 then you need the new DualSense Edge wireless controller which can take players to the next level.

Tech Guide was sent the DualSense Edge controller by PlayStation Australia for review and we mainly used it playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

It’s appropriately called Edge because that’s precisely what it can give you – the edge over your opponents which can make the difference between winning and losing.

The added controls and settings can make you a more efficient player to provide that little bit extra over and above your skills and reflexes.

And you can personalise the controls and triggers to suit your own preferences and to better fit the game you’re playing.

There are changeable stick caps – you have three pairs in total – each with different heights and textures to ensure stability and grip.

This is important in a game where you need to move and react quickly.

But you can go even further with the sticks and replace the entire module with a new one that’s sold separately.

The plate below the thumb sticks can be removed using a small lock switch on the base of the controller.

On the front are new function keys that lets you toggle between pre-set gaming profiles and adjust the game volume without leaving the game.

You can access the on-screen menu when you press and hold either of these keys.

The DualSense Edge controller has dedicated back buttons which are mappable to your game.

In the hard case that comes with the controller are two pairs of removeable buttons – one pair has a half dome shape that protrude further from the controller and the other pair are flat lever that hug the base of the controller.

But what they both have in common is that they’re precisely at your fingertips on the underside of the controller.

This way you can put commonly used controls or controls you need to reach instantly literally at your fingertips.

One of our favourite new features was the adjustable trigger lengths which can be set manually for the left and right triggers.

We set these to the middle setting. Slide the switch all the way to the bottom makes the trigger’s travel shorter and sliding all the way to the top sets the trigger travel length to the normal level.

We found this adjustment helped us while playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare II.

Left trigger is aiming and the right trigger is for firing your weapon.

By reducing the travel length of the trigger meant we could activate those settings faster. We kept it at the middle setting because we like to keep the right trigger almost engaged while we’re playing so– making it the shortest setting could possibly fire our weapon when we didn’t want to.

The Sony DualSense Edge controller comes with a 2.8m braided cabled so it can be connected to your console while sitting on the couch or at your gaming desk.

Also included with the cable is a lockable connector housing so the cable is locked in place and can’t be accidentally disconnected from the controller.

That’s the last thing you want to happen especially in the middle of a game.

Now let’s talk price. Having this much extra control and customisation comes at a price – it’s $339.95.

This includes the DualSense Edge controller, the braided cable, cable lockable connector, the additional back keys, the additional stick caps and the hard case to keep it safe and sound to take anywhere.

If you’re serious about your gaming then you need a serious controller and the Sony PlayStation DualSense Edge wireless controller is a pro-level accessory that certainly fits the bill.
