Alarm clock monitors and helps improve your sleep

Gear4 showed off some impressive new products at CES including a device which can monitor and improve your sleep with your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

The Renew Sleep Clock sits on your bedside table and uses a built-in sensor to keep track of your sleep patterns.

Gear4’s sleep clock also allows user to set a “wake-up window” – a period you can specify for the device to wake you from your lightest sleep phase.

And of course the Renew Sleep Clock can also play all your favourite music from your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with users also able to choose to wake up to their favourite song.

We all know the benefits of a good night’s sleep including better concentration, restoring your brain and body and even weight control.

The Gear4 Renew Sleep Clock works with a dedicated app for the iPhone/iPod Touch and the iPad.

The app is used by the device to capture information about your sleep patterns including how long it took you to go to sleep, the periods of your deepest and lightest sleep and the actual period of restful sleep you’ve had.

The Gear4 Renew Sleep Clock has a dock to fit an iPhone, iPod Touch and an iPad

And the Gear4 Renew Sleep Clock is contactless which means the user doesn’t have to wear a monitor or have any other device on or in the bed.

Setting a Wake-Up Window to choose the best time to be roused from sleep can set the tone for the rest of your day.

A regular alarm clock blares its alert at the designated time and, if you are in a deep sleep, it can be a jarring wake up and actually impact how you feel for the rest of the day.

But with the Wake Up Window on the Gear4 Renew Sleep Clock the user will be woken gently at the time when they are in the lightest sleep.

Research has shown that even waking up earlier during a light sleep cycle is better than being woken a short time later from a deep sleep.

The Gear4 Renew Sleep Clock will be available in Australia in the coming months and Tech Guide will be writing a full review of the product at that time.

Also unveiled by Gear4 at CES were a range of wireless speaker systems which use Bluetooth and AirPlay to stream your music from your iPhone or iPad.

There was also the AlarmDock Halo 2 which also works with a dedicated app to give the product even more features and control.

And when the iPhone or iPad is docked to the device it automatically sets the right time and even transfers any alarms you may have set up to the AlarmDock Halo 2.
