Apple’s 25 billionth app downloaded in China

Apple’s App Store eclipsed the 25 billion mark when Chunli Fu from Qingdau, China downloaded the free Where’s My Water? app and, in the process, won a $US10,000 iTunes voucher.

There are now more than 315 million iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices worldwide which have access to more than 550,000 apps in 123 countries with 21 different categories including games, business, news, sport, health & fitness and travel.

Of those 550,000 apps, there are more than 170,000 apps designed just for the iPad.

“We’d like to thank our customers and developers for helping us achieve this historic milestone of 25 billion apps downloaded,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.

“When we launched the App Store less than four years ago, we never imagined that mobile apps would become the phenomenon they have, or that developers would create such an incredible selection of apps for iOS users.”

Apple also ran a similar promotion when it crossed the 10 billion app mark just over a year ago with the next 15 billion app downloads to reach the 25 billion app mark coming in just over last 12 months.
