The powerful new M1 iMac is just 11.5mm thick and available in a range of colours

Apple has unveiled a stunning redesigned iMac that’s just 11.5mm thick, available in a range of colours and powered by the company’s own M1 processor.

The new iMac has a 24-inch 4.5K Retina Display with narrower bezels and 11.3 million pixels that can display more than a billion colours.

The design is truly remarkable with a thickness of just 11.5mm.

This svelte look is made possible by the M1 processor’s power efficiency with the logic board and thermals dramatically reduced.

The new design reduced the volume of the new iMac by 50 per cent compared the previous model so it can fit anywhere in your home.

But the new 24-inch iMac has a smaller display than the current 27-inch iMac which leads us to believe a larger, probably 32-inch, iMac powered by M1 will be released in the near future and possibly called the iMac Pro.

“M1 is a gigantic leap forward for the Mac, and today we’re excited to introduce the all-new iMac, the first Mac designed around the breakthrough M1 chip,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“With its striking design in seven stunning colours, its immersive 4.5K Retina display, the best camera, mics, and speakers ever in a Mac, and Touch ID, combined with the amazing performance of M1 and the power of macOS Big Sur, the new iMac takes everything people love about iMac to an entirely new level.”

The new M1 iMac is available in seven striking colours – green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.

The new simplified and cleaner design is complemented with a new magnetic power connector with a woven two-metre cable.

The power adaptor also includes an Ethernet connection to reduce the cable clutter on your desktop and to maintain the iMac’s super thin design.

The headphone had to even be relocated on the side of the iMac because the unit was too thin for it to be located on the rear panel.

Under the hood is a powerful 8-core CPU in M1 and an 8-core GPU with the fastest integrated graphics in a personal computer.

When compared to the previous 21.5-inch iMac it has 85 per cent faster CPU performance and 2x faster GPU.

It is powerful enough to edit five streams of 4K footage or one stream of 8K video on Final Cut Pro.

The new M1 iMac also includes a 1080p full high definition FaceTime camera for even higher quality video calls and a studio quality three-microphone array so you can sound as good as you look for your next virtual meeting or FaceTime call.

Sound quality of the iMac has also taken a leap forward with a six-speaker system that includes two pairs of force cancelling woofers for superior bass and a high performance tweeters.

This new speaker system can now support spatial audio and Dolby Atmos.

There are two Thunderbolt ports which can support up to a 6K display and two USB-C ports on the rear panel of the super thin computer.

M1 iMac now comes with colour matching keyboards, trackpads and Magic Mouse.

The new keyboards also bring Touch ID for the first time to the desktop experience.

The new 24-inch iMac is available to order from April 30.

The iMac with 7-core GPU starts at $1899 and $1829 for education, and is available in green, pink, blue, and silver.

Onboard is an 8-core CPU, 8GB of unified memory, 256GB SSD, two Thunderbolt ports, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Mouse.
