Telstra partners with Roku for Telstra TV to make your streaming options easier

Telstra is taking on Apple TV and Google Chromecast after striking up a partnership with Roku to offer customers Telstra TV – a device that makes it easy to access subscription video on demand services and other content.

Roku is a leading streaming platform in the US, UK and Canada and it has designed a streaming platform specifically for Australian customers as the basis for Telstra TV.

Customers can view SVOD services like Netflix, Preston and Stan through Telstra TV along with other content from Bigpond movies and other catch up TV services.

Telstra TV will be offered in addition to other existing services like T-Box and Foxtel from Telstra.

“Australians have enthusiastically embraced video streaming as an entertainment platform and Telstra TV will differentiate Telstra as a provider of streaming content,” said Joe Pollard, Telstra GMD Media and Marketing.

“Rather than restrict our customers’ choices, we want to host all the popular streaming video services on our platforms and make it easy for them to get all the content they want in the one place.

“Roku is renowned for producing streaming devices with an exciting variety of entertainment choices and great value.

“Roku devices are popular among consumers in the US, Canada and UK. By combining our networks and content with Roku Powered players and the Roku platform, we will offer a brilliant streaming experience in the market designed specifically for Australian consumers.”

Telstra TV powered by Roku will be available in September with pricing to be announced closer to the launch date.
