Kia partners with SUNA for live traffic GPS updates

kiasorentoKia Motors Australia has announced a partnership with Intelematics Australia to provide SUNA live traffic updates to in-car GPS in its range of vehicles.

This means Kia drivers can now check to see what traffic lies ahead on their route and will be a standard feature on Platinum grade Optima, Sorento and Sportage models.

Kia’s first satellite navigation systems with SUNA will also be available as an option on the SLi Sorento and Sportage.

“The SUNA live traffic system gives a new relevance to satellite navigation for daily commuters who will obviously know their way to and from their regular destinations but now have the added peace of mind that there will be no unexpected surprises on the way,” says Tony Barlow, Chief Operating Officer, Kia Motors Australia.

Kia is actually the ninth motoring manufacturer to provide SUNA live traffic updates through its onboard GPS system.

Sales of vehicles fitted with SUNA traffic updates embedded on in-car GPS systems is expected to exceed 110,000 units by the end of this financial year.

SUNA supplies its traffic information to vehicles after analyzing more than 300 million instantaneous speed measurements each month and combines these with other traffic data including GPS data on other vehicles, traffic light data, traffic camera data and other historical information.
