When we talk about smart home ecosystems, there aren’t many bigger than Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, which includes mobile devices, AV products, monitors and home appliances and more.

The idea of a connected home has been around for years, and the SmartThings app continues to pique the interest of consumers, with 35 per cent of Australians surveyed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd seeing the appeal of smart homes[1][2].

Whilst the SmartThings app enables Australians to connect their compatible smart devices within the home, it also connects certain mobile devices, with compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones, watches, tablets, Buds and SmartTag2 also operating within the ecosystem.

And the benefits aren’t just about convenience – it can also help you monitor your energy consumption as well.

Some Samsung appliances have built-in technology which can learn about your usage patterns and load sizes, which can help users monitor energy output to provide personalised automation to suit your lifestyle, routines and preferences.

Naturally, Samsung products work together seamlessly but the SmartThings app can also work with other compatible connected devices a part of your smart home’s ecosystem, such as third party products[3] from other brands which are compatible with Matter[4].

Matter is a new connectivity standard that makes compatible products talk the same language and work together on the same network. Think of Matter as the smart home version of Bluetooth.

Bluetooth makes it possible for virtually all headphones to connect wirelessly to any smartphone regardless of the brand.

Matter will do the same thing, connecting a variety of compatible smart home products to your home network and centralising them within the SmartThings mobile app.

On the mobile side, the most obvious SmartThings connection is between a Galaxy smartphone, Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Tab.

Once the case is opened, the Buds are immediately recognised by your compatible Galaxy smartphone to enter pairing mode for connection.

And the controls are also brought to your fingertips so you can adjust the Buds’ settings and easily control your media via the Galaxy Wearable app.

And with Galaxy Buds Auto Switching users can seamlessly switch between their compatible Galaxy smartphone to the Galaxy Tab. So this means you can start a movie on the phone and continue watching it on the tablet without skipping a beat.

When the Galaxy Watch is in the mix and paired to a Galaxy smartphone, you can receive notifications and incoming calls alongside other features including the ability to take a photo from your wrist using the Camera Controller on the Galaxy Watch.

If you get a call on your Galaxy smartphone it’s also possible to answer the call on the Galaxy Tab if they are both signed into the same Samsung account.

Your Samsung TV can also be the hub of your smart home.

It can be your home’s mission control so you can monitor all your compatible smart connected devices including select appliances, lights, cameras and smart switches. And you can even control your Samsung smart TV from your compatible Samsung Galaxy phone[5]– simply open the SmartThings app, choose your compatible device and use your phone as the remote control.

Looking at something on your phone but want to see it on the bigger screen of your TV? You can also mirror your compatible phone and your TV screen will show the same content.

You can create scenes and routines from the Smart TV SmartThings dashboard. Users can easily create a scene that creates the right viewing atmosphere for a movie.

A movie night scene can be created to switch sources to the disc player or favourite streaming service while the same time having the connected smart lights dim down and fade out.

SmartThings app notifications can also be set to be received on the Samsung Smart Monitor M7 and M8 which can be your computer monitor one minute and turn into an entertainment hub the next with the same Tizen operating system as found on Samsung smart TVs.

The ecosystem created from all this connectivity is compelling.  There are so many customisation options that you can set up if you have compatible devices. For example, if someone is at the door, an alert can appear on the TV that the video doorbell is ringing. You can also be informed once your laundry cycle in your Samsung washing machine is complete, or if you left the door of the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator open.

If you have a Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator you can also stream the TV signal to the screen so you’re not missing a moment of the movie or sporting event if you’re in the kitchen making a snack.

The Samsung Family Hub includes a 21-inch display you can access apps on and even order your shopping right there on the screen and have it delivered to your door.

A favourite feature of the Family Hub is the ability to look inside the fridge via the Built-In cameras which can be accessed via the SmartThings app so you can see if you need milk, bread or butter and anything else while you’re at the shops.

This way you’re not buying another carton of milk or more bread if you already have them. Saves you money and save you wasting food.

Samsung’s wide range of smart appliances like the Bespoke AI™ Washers and Dryers and the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+ are a great way to bring the SmartThings ecosystem in your home.

With SmartThings you will understand how easily it can be used and optimised to make your life easier.

When you have the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem in full swing, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

In an era defined by technological advancement, innovation extends its reach into every aspect of our lives. One such revolutionizing concept is smart plumbing, a technology poised to transform the way we interact with water systems. The beauty of smart plumbing lies in its ability to seamlessly blend complexity and efficiency, offering homeowners and businesses a way to monitor and manage water usage like never before.

The Rise of Smart Plumbing

Smart plumbing is not merely an emerging trend; it’s a solution to several pressing issues related to water usage, conservation, and management. Unlike traditional plumbing systems, which often function in the background without much interaction, smart residential plumbing systems are equipped with advanced sensors and controls that turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Enhanced Leak Detection

One of the primary benefits of smart plumbing is its unparalleled ability to detect even the tiniest of leaks. These systems are equipped with sensors that continuously monitor water flow and pressure. When irregularities are detected, an alert is sent to the user, allowing them to address potential issues before they escalate into costly disasters. This level of vigilance offers homeowners and business owners peace of mind, knowing that their properties are safeguarded against water damage.

Revolutionary Water Management

Beyond leak detection, smart plumbing systems empower users to take control of their water usage in real-time. They provide detailed insights into consumption patterns, helping individuals make informed decisions about their daily water habits. This newfound awareness allows for more efficient resource allocation, leading to reduced waste and lower utility bills. Additionally, these systems can generate comprehensive reports on energy consumption, highlighting areas where further improvements can be made.

Cost Savings Through Efficiency

Smart plumbing is synonymous with efficiency, and efficiency translates to cost savings. By minimizing water waste and optimizing consumption patterns, these systems lead to lower monthly bills. Users can customize their smart plumbing settings, ensuring that their water systems align with their preferences, whether it’s maintaining a specific temperature or adjusting flow rates for various fixtures.

Challenges on the Horizon

While the promise of smart plumbing is enticing, there are challenges to consider when implementing this technology. One significant hurdle is compatibility with existing infrastructure. Smart plumbing systems must seamlessly integrate with the current plumbing network, which can be a complex task, especially in older homes with outdated plumbing systems. This often requires the expertise of a qualified plumber or contractor.

Security and Privacy Concerns

In an increasingly connected world, data security and privacy are paramount. Smart plumbing systems collect and transmit data about water usage and system performance. To prevent potential cyber threats or data breaches, it’s crucial to ensure that these systems incorporate robust encryption protocols. Homeowners must take proactive steps to protect their data when adopting smart plumbing technology.

Case Studies of Success

Examining real-world applications of smart plumbing technology showcases its transformative potential. Take, for instance, the University of Connecticut, which implemented a networked smart plumbing system across its campus buildings. This system not only detected abnormal water usage but also provided actionable insights. As a result, the university saved thousands in energy costs annually.

In Austin, Texas, an apartment complex introduced a real-time water usage monitoring system through an online dashboard. This initiative empowered residents with data about their water consumption, enabling them to make informed choices and reducing their monthly bills.

Conclusion: A Watershed Moment

Smart plumbing is more than just a buzzword; it’s a watershed moment in the world of water management. Through sensors, digital controls, smart meters, and advanced analytics, it brings unprecedented intelligence to our plumbing systems. By detecting leaks swiftly, optimizing water temperature, and promoting efficient consumption, smart plumbing technology offers a cost-effective and sustainable path to improving our homes and businesses. It’s not just the future; it’s the present. Embracing smart plumbing means embracing a smarter, more efficient way of managing our most precious resource – water.

In an era marked by the relentless march of technological progress, it’s no surprise that the realm of plumbing has also witnessed a transformative revolution. Smart plumbing devices, those ingenious marvels of modern engineering, are quietly reshaping our relationship with water, rendering it more efficient, intuitive, and environmentally conscious.

These unassuming devices represent the convergence of innovation and necessity, a fusion of cutting-edge technology and everyday utility that stands as a testament to human ingenuity.

Smart plumbing devices, like the myriad streams that comprise a watershed, come in various forms and sizes. They include the familiar household fixtures such as toilets, faucets, and showerheads, each imbued with a newfound intelligence that transcends their traditional roles. These devices, once relegated to the mundane, have evolved into guardians of our precious water resources, capable of detecting our presence and adapting to our needs with a level of sophistication that borders on the uncanny.

Consider the smart toilet, an unassuming porcelain throne that has undergone a metamorphosis into a paragon of efficiency and hygiene. Equipped with motion sensors that discern our approach, these toilets perform a delicate dance of anticipation. As we draw near, they open their lids with a welcoming gesture, and as we depart, they bid us farewell with a discreet flush, all while conserving water with surgical precision. Some even boast self-cleaning systems, ensuring that cleanliness remains uncompromised, sparing us from the unpleasant task of scrubbing and disinfecting.

3D printing in plumbing applications is akin to orchestrating a symphony of plastic and metal. It allows for the creation of parts with unparalleled complexity, turning the once arduous task of crafting home plumbing components into a seamless ballet of precision. The resulting pieces, born from the very essence of innovation, are not only visually captivating but also lighter, more durable, and environmentally friendly.

In the realm of pipe repair and maintenance, automation reigns supreme. As the arteries of modern civilization, pipelines crisscross the urban landscape, delivering the lifeblood of water and energy to our homes and industries. Automated pipe repair systems, infused with the intelligence of robotics, have emerged as indispensable allies in the quest to keep these vital conduits flowing seamlessly.

Photo by Matt Artz on Unsplash

These robotic sentinels, armed with a suite of sensors, traverse the labyrinthine network of pipes, seeking out imperfections with an almost preternatural acumen. They detect cracks and corrosion, those stealthy adversaries that threaten the integrity of the pipelines, and with uncanny precision, they mark these vulnerabilities for intervention. In doing so, they avert catastrophes, preventing the gushing torrents that can disrupt our lives and drain our coffers.

But the benefits of automated pipe repair systems extend far beyond crisis avoidance. They herald a new era of efficiency and cost-effectiveness, where human intervention is minimized, and productivity soars. These tireless machines work tirelessly, executing their tasks with the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel, while human workers are freed from the drudgery of manual labor. The result is not only a more reliable infrastructure but also a workforce empowered to focus on higher-level tasks.

At their core, monitoring software is akin to a benevolent voyeur, discreetly observing every aspect of system performance. It collects a plethora of metrics, from memory usage to disk space availability, and presents them as a tapestry of information. This mosaic of data serves as our window into the inner workings of our digital domains, revealing trends and anomalies that might otherwise elude our notice.

In the world of plumbing maintenance, augmented reality (AR) is the magic wand that grants plumbers the power to see beyond the physical realm. AR transcends the limitations of space and time, allowing plumbers to diagnose and repair plumbing issues remotely, as if they possessed a sixth sense that pierces through walls and floors.

Imagine a plumber, armed with nothing more than a tablet or smartphone, standing before a mysterious plumbing conundrum. With a few taps and swipes, they summon the power of AR, and before their eyes materializes a three-dimensional hologram of the plumbing system. It hovers in mid-air, an ethereal blueprint that reveals the hidden intricacies of pipes and fixtures, as well as any lurking issues.

In conclusion, the realm of plumbing has been irrevocably altered by the relentless march of technology. Smart plumbing devices, 3D printing, automated pipe repair systems, monitoring and diagnostics software, and augmented reality have all combined to create a landscape that is both complex and bursting with innovation.

These advancements not only enhance efficiency and convenience but also empower us to become better stewards of our precious resources. As we navigate this brave new world of plumbing, we find ourselves in the company of devices and technologies that blur the lines between the mundane and the extraordinary, ushering in a future where water flows efficiently, infrastructure endures, and plumbers wield digital magic to keep it all running smoothly.

In the 21st century, technology is driving transformative changes across various industries, and the construction sector is no exception. This era has ushered in a wave of innovation that is revolutionizing the way we build. From advanced materials and renewable energy sources to smart technologies and automation, the integration of technology into building construction is paving the way for sustainable and highly efficient structures.

This article delves into the realm of modern building technology, exploring how it is shaping the future of sustainable and efficient construction.

Embracing Technological Advancements in Building Construction

Building construction has evolved significantly over the years, and technology is at the forefront of this transformation. It encompasses a broad spectrum of innovations that contribute to sustainable and efficient construction practices.

Prefabricated Components: One of the noteworthy advancements is the increased use of prefabricated components. While prefabrication is not a new concept, its popularity has surged due to its ability to reduce waste, trim labor costs, and accelerate home building project timelines. Walls, ceilings, roofs, and other structural elements can now be manufactured off-site in controlled environments using high-quality materials. This allows for swift on-site assembly, streamlining the construction process.

Automation Technologies: Automation is another game-changer in the construction industry. These technologies are designed to enhance efficiency by minimizing manual labor and improving measurement precision. Robotic arms and drones equipped with cameras, for instance, play a pivotal role in tasks such as land surveying and precise measurement, tasks that traditionally consumed significant time and human resources.

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Virtual Reality (VR) Systems: Architects and designers benefit immensely from CAD and VR systems. These tools provide efficient ways to visualize and plan construction projects, enabling better design accuracy and decision-making. VR, in particular, offers immersive experiences that help stakeholders gain a comprehensive understanding of the final structure before construction even begins.

Green Energy Sources: In the quest for sustainability, the construction industry is increasingly turning to green energy sources. Solar panels, wind turbines, and geothermal systems are integrated into building designs to harness renewable energy. These sources not only reduce a building’s carbon footprint but also cut down on long-term energy costs, making them economically viable.

The Rewards of Technological Integration in Construction

Utilizing technology in building construction offers a plethora of benefits that extend beyond efficiency improvements.

  1. Reduced Labour Costs: Automation technologies, such as robotic arms, 3D printing, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), drones, sensors, and artificial intelligence (AI), play a pivotal role in minimizing labor costs. These technologies streamline various aspects of construction, resulting in faster project completion without compromising quality. This efficiency translates to substantial cost savings, a win-win for both builders and clients.
  2. Increased Efficiency: Advanced technologies expedite every phase of construction, from design and planning to execution. Real-time tracking through augmented reality allows for efficient progress monitoring and swift adjustments when needed. The result is timely project completion without sacrificing safety or quality standards.
  3. Improved Quality: The introduction of cutting-edge technologies, such as 3D printing, contributes to improved quality in construction. Workers have access to high-quality components at a lower cost compared to traditional methods. This not only enhances the structural integrity of buildings but also extends their lifespan, reducing maintenance and repair costs over time.

In Conclusion

The integration of technology into building construction has ushered in a new era of sustainability and efficiency. By leveraging modern innovations, construction companies can create environmentally friendly structures that reduce emissions and conserve resources. Our commitment to technological advancement is key to building a sustainable future. With the right tools and resources, every building constructed in this century can be green, efficient, and safe for generations to come.

In an age where technology drives progress, embracing innovation in construction is not just an option; it’s a necessity. The future of sustainable and efficient building construction is unfolding before our eyes, and it’s an exciting journey towards a greener, more sustainable world.

Ecovacs Robotics has made a price breakthrough with its new Deebot N10 Plus robotic vacuum and mopping cleaner which offers a range of high end features and power that’s available for under $1000 for the first time.

The Deebot N10 Plus includes most of the features Ecovacs is well known for including strong suction power of 4300Pa, advanced TrueMapping navigation technology, up to five hours of runtime and an auto-empty charging station that can hold up to 60 days of dust.

For customers who want to take back some of their valuable time, the new Ecovacs Deebot N10 Plus can certainly play the part and provide excellent cleaning without you having to lift a finger. It can all be controlled and monitored through the Ecovacs companion app.

Ecovacs existing products already in Australian homes have saved users more than three million hours a year of cleaning time and have covered enough ground cleaning that’s equivalent to covering the surface of the Melbourne Cricket Ground more than 2,300 times.

“With Australians eager to embrace home robotics that deliver both convenience and time-saving, it was important that Ecovacs continued to step up and deliver a new, compelling option for them to consider, and we are delighted to be adding the Deebot N10 Plus into our range,” said Karen Powell, Regional Director of Australia and New Zealand for Ecovacs Robotics.

“We are constantly challenging ourselves, be it through innovation or value, and the Deebot N10 Plus combines both by delivering an uncompromising clean with these carefully curated features never seen before for this price.”

The suction power of 4300Pa is enough to easily remove dust and debris from crevices and the deepest carpet fibres.

The auto empty station can store up to 60 days of dust and debris in it 2.5L disposable dust bag so users can set and forget the system and still enjoy a convenient and hygienic hands-free cleaning experience.

If you made some ambitious New Year’s resolutions and have already lost motivation, then maybe your Amazon Alexa device can help you get back on track.

Research by Amazon found that 61 per cent of Australians who set goals at the start of the year failed to meet these resolutions after just three months into the year.

Reasons for giving up included a lack of motivation (52 per cent), being too busy (36 per cent) disorganisation (19 per cent) and forgetfulness (19 per cent).

“It is no surprise that so many of us say their resolutions and goals falter after three months or sooner,” says clinical psychologist and author Rebecca Ray.

“The new year holiday period for many of us is a time for overindulging, or completely switching off, which means we are more likely to set lofty ambitions which may not be achievable.

“By setting goals a few months into the year, you should have more clarity on what’s important and manageable day-to-day or week-to-week to set realistic goals, and ultimately see more results.”

But accountability is key. The research shows two thirds of Australians say being held accountable by someone else and being reminded daily is important to help them succeed.

And it’s here where personal AI like Alexa can play a part.

“Around a third of our Aussie customers with Echo devices are utilising Alexa alarms and Alexa routines day-to-day to help keep them on track,” says Kate Burleigh, Country Manager for Amazon Alexa Australia.

“However, only a tenth is asking Alexa to set reminders, which is a very powerful way to hold yourself accountable to your goals.

“By simply asking ‘Alexa, remind me to put the bins out every Sunday night’ or ‘Alexa, remind me to pay the electricity bill’, you can get the support you need to build daily habits. There is so much that Alexa can do to help you reach any goal.”

Dr Ray says converting goals into actions requires forming an automatic behaviour or habit.

By asking Alexa to set reminders, routines and alarms it makes triggering good behaviours even easier.

Alexa can provide audio and visual cues and reminders that will be like crossing off tasks on a list.

“A habit is something you make a conscious decision to do once, then you stop thinking about it because it becomes automatic,” added Dr Ray.

“Around 40-45 per cent of what we do every day is done out of habit. Very little willpower is necessary for habits because they’re woven into the fabric of our lives.

“Tech support systems, like Alexa, can really help you to do the things you want to do to thrive. By setting cues in your environment that help trigger automatic behaviours, you can develop a routine that becomes automatic, helping you achieve your goals.

“The reason habits are so powerful for wellbeing is because they need minimal willpower once they are in place – all thanks to the activation of the habit loop.”

Dr Ray say choosing specific goals is helps on the path to success. For example, “go to bed by 9pm” rather than just “get better sleep”.

Dr Ray shares six tips on the proactive steps to help set your goals:

Be focused and keep it simple. Start with one goal that’s a priority which you can weave into your routine. Once that habit has been created, you can move onto the next.

– Choose specific goals that can be put into action. While ‘improve fitness,’ ‘eat healthier’ and ‘sleep more’ are great goals that many people may set, these goals can be hard to achieve. Instead, choose specific goals that you can put into action like going to bed by 9pm every night or eating two vegetarian meals a week. Use Alexa to help by setting a bedtime routine or getting recipes inspiration via the Taste integration.

– Don’t just set an alarm, set a reminder.  Setting alarms will prompt your brain to activate the habit routine, and you can help this further by setting a reminder with Alexa. Not only will this sound at the designated date/time, but it will also say what the reminder is for, like ‘get ready for Pilates’ or ‘pay your phone bill’. The more cues, the more likely the habit will switch on and strengthen.

– Remove the decision making. For example, set a weather alert to proactively decide if you are working out indoors or outside, removing a decision from the process to make getting into the action simple. You can help yourself also by preparing workout clothes the night before so they’re ready to put on before you have a chance to even think about it.

– Get inspired and get in the zone. Have some fun with your goals – create a workout playlist that gets you in the zone or ask Alexa for a recommendation on a new recipe to try using what’s already leftover in your fridge.

– Be rewarded. It’s also important to reward yourself after taking action towards your goals to mark that behaviour in your brains as one worth repeating.

Amazon’s range of Echo Dot and Echo Show products along with a wide range of Alexa skills make it possible to set routines, reminders and alarms using voice commands.

The areas Australians want to improve according to the Amazon Alexa research is health and fitness (70 per cent), mental health (64 per cent), finances (62 per cent), relationships (53 per cent) and sleep (48 per cent).

Roborock has launched its latest S8 range of flagship robot vacuum cleaners which build on the success of the popular S7 series with more power and new intelligent features.

Unveiled at Uluru, the Roborock S8 line-up is made up of three models – the S8, the S8+ and S8 Pro Ultra – and offer a hands-free cleaning experience.

“The S8 Series uses the most powerful cleaning system we have ever seen in the Australian market to date on a robot vacuum,” says Jade Tang – Head of Marketing- Roborock ANZ. “Paired with the ability to manoeuvre around objects and maintain itself, customers can now enjoy a more hands-free deep clean than ever before.”

The S8 series boasts Roborock’s strongest suction at an impressive 6000Pa and the new dual rubber roller improves the ability to pick up dirt while still avoiding hair tangles which will be music to the ears of pet owners.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a brush that can lift automatically up to 5mm in the mop-only mode which prevents cross contamination when the vacuum returns to the dock.

Mopping is even more efficient with the S8 Pro Ultra thanks to the improved VibraRise system which offers two vibration points which, when combined with the Sonic Vibration technology, can scrubs floors 3000 times per minute for a spotless result.

And there’s no worry the S8 is going to get into a tangle thanks to the improved obstacle and avoidance system.

It can recognise and sidestep various objects like toys, cables and socks and continue its cleaning path.

The S8+ and S9 Pro Ultra also include an auto-empty dock station which allows the robot to auto empty water and dust for up to seven weeks before you need to change the dust bags and refill the reservoir.

The Roborock S8, S8+ and S8 Pro Ultra are available to pre-order ahead of a May release from Godfreys, Mobileciti, Robot Specialists and Roborock Online Store. All pre-orders will come with a matching Roborock Accessories Kit valued at $150.

We know Ecovacs as the brand behind the Deebot robot vacuums that can keep your carpets and hard floors spotless but now it has introduced the Winbot W1 Pro to clean your windows as well.

The window-cleaning robot incorporates proprietary cleaning and suction technology to deliver spotless results every time and offer you another way of saving time.

The Winbot W1 Pro uses dual direction cross auto-spray technology along with a powerful steady climbing system and edge detection to get the job done.

The device is held in place thanks to the strong suction power of 2800Pa so it can clean windows and other glass in your home including shower screens, glass balconies and pool fences.

It can also clean hard-to-reach areas which usually would have involved getting up on a ladder with a bucket and a squeegee.

The cross-spraying technology means the unit can both dissolve and wipe off stains no matter the size of the window.

It has a 60ml reservoir and a specially designed microfiber cloth so areas are kept moist for a higher quality clean.

The Winbot W1 Pro has strong driving treads and precise gravity settings which, when combined with the strong suction, delivers not only a firmer grip but also a firmer wiping action on the glass.

The device can also detect edges on all glass surfaces including frameless windows so it can be used in a variety of situations like pool barriers and glass balconies.

The unit can also be controlled via the Ecovacs app which makes it possible to monitor the clean and even control it remotely.

The Winbot W1 Pro is the result of a decade of research and development and takes the company’s expertise in cleaning robotics to another level.

“As Ecovacs Robotics celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2023, the desire from Australians to embrace time-saving home cleaning robotics has never been greater,” says Karen Powell, Regional Director of Ecovacs Robotics in Australia and New Zealand.

“We are delighted to expand our product portfolio with the WINBOT W1 PRO and believe its advanced window cleaning technology means that Australians can instead ‘sit back, relax and enjoy the view’ whilst we continue to deliver the future of home cleaning.”

The Winbot W1 Pro is priced at $799 and available from select Bing Lee stores and online from JB Hi-Fi, Bing Lee, Robot Specialist, Amazon, eBay and ECOVACS.com/au.

Are you an Australian business owner? There are a few excellent reasons why running your business is a popular choice. For one, your income and wealth can grow far greater than if you draw a salary from another company.

Also, if you get far enough down the track, you can employ people to run your business for you while you pursue other activities – professional or otherwise.

Yet running your own business comes with responsibility. You must look after your staff, pay them well, and ensure your business thrives. And if you own a brick-and-mortar location such as a store or warehouse, you must ensure that your property and inventory are protected.

This helpful article will explore all about CCTV systems and will share seven benefits that Aussie business owners should know. Read on to find out more.

1. Peace of Mind

If you contract Melbourne CCTV installation experts, you can rest assured that they’ll do a fantastic job. A large part of business security measures is ensuring peace of mind for owners such as yourself. The right company will do the job perfectly, resulting in an excellent, state-of-the-art security monitoring system for your business. You can then relax and focus on what matters – growing your business and achieving your dreams. It’s hard to run a business while worrying about protecting your assets, so get the pros in to install your system and get back to work.

2. A Strong Deterrent

The thing about thieves is that they are opportunistic. They deliberately target homes and businesses that have low or no security measures. After all, they don’t want to be caught breaking the law and face jail time. This means that when they’re casing a target location, they will almost always opt for the easier one. If your business premises have a CCTV system, they will see this and think twice about hitting your location.

3. Evidence of Crime

Let’s continue exploring business security. Suppose the worst-case scenario occurs and nefarious sorts break into your business location and steal goods, cash or other valuables. In that case, your CCTV will have captured images of them or their vehicles. This can make for hard evidence if the police apprehend suspects and charge them with burglary and other offences. In this case, the footage your camera systems capture may mean the difference between a guilty verdict or the crooks getting away scot-free.

4. Reduce Security Expenses

Security can be a significant expense for a business, especially engaging a security company to patrol your location. A CCTV system is like having a virtual security guard on site around the clock, seven days a week. While there may be an initial expense to install the system, the ongoing costs are pretty low, and you’ll barely notice them in your power bill.

As we mentioned above, the CCTV system will provide a vital deterrent factor, such as a security patrol would. You’ll save a heap of money in the long run by opting for a CCTV system instead of security patrols or a security guard being present on site.

5. A Deterrent Against Vandalism

Would-be bandits aren’t the only dodgy types who may target your business. Depending on its location, your premises could be appealing to vandals. These delinquents might use your external wall as a canvas for graffiti or for wanton destruction of various kinds, such as smashing windows. Installing a CCTV system will deter these young punks from attacking your location. They’ll see the cameras and head for an easier, softer target. If they are foolish enough to commit their heinous vandalism at your property, you’ve captured them on your CCTV system and will have evidence to hand to the police.

6. To Monitor Staff

Another benefit of CCTV systems for your business locations is to monitor your staff. This isn’t always about preventing loss via theft, but monitoring your tills if you deal in cash is a good idea. Some benefits of monitoring your staff include having evidence for worker’s compensation claims and disputes, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, keeping your staff safe, and preventing misconduct. You can also use staff monitoring to increase efficiency and productivity.

7. For Insurance Purposes

Depending on your business insurance, CCTV may be necessary. Some insurance policies for business premises will have clauses that state the location must have security measures in place. Without them, you may find that your insurance does not cover you in the case of burglary or vandalism. This could devastate your business, so it’s worth checking if this is true.

A Security Summary in Seven Stages

This helpful article has covered seven benefits of business CCTV that Australian business owners should know. By now, you’re fully informed and should be ready to decide how you protect your business assets. Good luck with protecting your business, and your future endeavours.

Here’s your opportunity to snap up a bargain – the Deebot Neo robotic vaccum will be reduced to half price when it returns to ALDI’s Special Buys from March 8.

Usually $799, the Deebot NEO will be reduced to $399 for the sale while stocks last – and at this price, the stock won’t last long.

Interest in robot vacuums is at an all-time high.

Ecovacs’ own research from late 2022 shows Australians’ willingness to adopt home robotics and lighten their loads.

Deebot NEO can both vacuum and mop and, with TrueMapping laser-based mapping, can navigate your home with ease and create the most efficient cleaning path.

“It is incredibly fulfilling to see our robot vacuums positively impact the day-to-day lives of so many Australians,” said Karen Powell, Regional Director, Ecovacs ANZ.

“We know from recent local research that robotic vacuum cleaners are more desired than ever before as the ease of use and time-saving benefits become more well-known.

“Our work with ALDI continues to help with this excitement as we are able to offer a great deal and further our mission to deliver Robotics For All.”

The Deebot NEO can detect objects in its path and avoid them and create maps for each level of a multi-level home.

Other Key Features:

Compatible with Auto-Empty Station: Available separately, the ECOVACS Auto-Empty Station can hold the dust and hair collected for up to 30 days, dramatically reducing the need to frequently clean the dustbin. Enjoy your home being cleaned for weeks with ease.

Automatic charging and continuous cleaning: Long cleaning paths are no problem for the NEO. If the battery is low, the DEEBOT NEO automatically returns to its docking station. As soon as it is fully charged, it continues cleaning the floor where it left off.

–  Mapping of several levels: Scan and store multiple maps of different floors of your home. The robot will customise its cleaning path once identifying which map it is in. You can also customise which room you’d like the robot to clean on each floor.

App control: You can use the app to conveniently control your robot from any situation and schedule a cleaning time or check the current cleaning status. Maps can be stored and individually adapted – with functions including Virtual Boundary, which limits the robotic vacuum cleaner’s operating area.

Customised Cleaning: customise specific suction power, water flow and cleaning sequences for each room in the home

Smart Home Device Compatibility: Experience convenient, hands-off controls via Google Home or Amazon Echo – simply link your smart home devices to your robot.

Stress free updates: The intuitive robot manages its own updates using ‘Over The Air’ technology. You can just update your APP to get the functions optimised and extended.

High Efficiency Air Filter: Breathe easy while your robot cleans. With its High Efficiency Filter, your robot will reduce airborne triggers while vacuuming.

The DEEBOT NEO is available on promotion at ALDI Australia from 8th March, for a limited time only at $399, while stocks last. It is otherwise available at the full price of  $799

Amazon has added an exciting new feature to its Alexa smart speakers – the ability to make free calls from their Echo device to mobile and land line numbers in Australia.

And soon customers will be able to assign an emergency contact who can be called and send a text message via the Alexa speaker if a user asks for help.

“For years, Alexa has been keeping Aussie homes organised, entertained and connected,” said Kate Gooden, Head of Product, Amazon Alexa ANZ.

“Alexa users around the world have used Alexa-to-phone calling to stay connected socially.

“We’re proud to bring this to Australia, but I’m especially excited about how this will help older Australians with a device at home.”

This new feature is available to customers with an Alexa powered device and is designed to keep users connected with friends and family.

Echo Show 10

It’s also especially beneficial for older Australians who want to live more independently in their home.

You can add up to 10 contacts via the Alexa app which can be dialled hands-free through your home’s wi-fi network.

All you need to say is: “Alexa call Jo’s mobile” or “Alexa, message Mum”.

Here’s how you can set up Alexa Calling:

  1. Download the latest version of the Alexa appand sign in on your mobile phone.
  1. Along the bottom of your app, select Communicate.
  2. Add and verify your mobile phone number and grant permissions for calling and messaging.
  3. You can import your mobile phone’s contact list when prompted or add contacts individually via the Communicate page in the app. To do this, select the person-shaped icon in the top right corner of the screen, followed by the three dots in the top right corner.

And when your contact receives a call, they will see your name on the screen like it’s coming from your smartphone.

Alexa Calling is the latest in the suite of existing Alexa communication features.

These include:

– Drop In: Like a modern-day intercom, this feature allows you to ‘drop in’ on supported Alexa-enabled devices. Drop-in on your pets while you’re away from home, or drop-in on another device in the house. Drop in is turned off by default, but can be enabled within the Alexa app.

– Announcements: Make announcements across your household. Just say, “Alexa, announce its dinner time.”

– Alexa-to-Alexa: Call your family and friends on their Alexa device, by saying “Alexa, call [insert name].”

– Group Calling: You can connect with multiple people at once by creating and naming groups in the Alexa app.

– Find my Phone: If you’re signed into the Alexa app, you can use your Echo device to call your phone. Simply say, “Alexa, find my phone”.
