Samsung confirms Unpacked launch event for latest foldable smartphones will be in Seoul

Samsung has confirmed it will be holding its Galaxy Unpacked event in late July to launch its latest generation foldable devices in Seoul in the company’s home country of South Korea.

In the past, Unpacked events have been held in New York, London, Berlin and Barcelona.

This year’s event will be held in Samseong-dong in Gangnam – a location the company says blends the past, present and future that defines Seoul.

Samsung says Seoul was selected because of its dynamic culture and innovation which has influenced global trends.

“The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.”

The first Galaxy Fold was released in 2019 after years of research and development and year after year Samsung has been innovating and improving the customer experience.

Now Samsung’s folding smartphones are entering their fifth generation and now include the Galaxy Z Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip.

Expectations are high for the new models with slight design changes expected and a smaller and more efficient hinge.

There are also rumours the Galaxy Z Fold5, which is compatible with the S Pen, may have room to store the S Pen inside the device’s chassis.

There are report the front screen on the Galaxy Z Flip5 will have a much larger outside screen that takes up the entire front panel in the folded position.

In 2022, the Korean market led the world with a 13.6 per cent adoption rate of foldable phones and the highest share of foldable phones in annual shipments.
